Equinix | Digital Infrastructure | Employer Branding: How Langoor Transformed Equinix's Talent Attraction Strategy and Built a Proactive Recruitment Engine

Employee branding. Career reputation building. ABM. Campaign design. Creative. Content. Media buying and optimisation. Marketing automation.

Challenge

Equinix is the world's largest data center and colocation provider, a Fortune 500 company operating 260+ IBX data centers across 71+ metropolitan areas in 33+ countries, with annual revenue exceeding $8 billion and a global workforce of 13,000+ employees. Platform Equinix connects more than 10,000 companies including hyperscalers, cloud providers, networks, and enterprises. By any objective measure, it is one of the most significant technology infrastructure companies in the world.

And yet, among the engineers, network architects, and IT professionals Equinix needed to hire, the brand barely registered. In a talent market dominated by FAANG companies, hyperscalers, and well-funded startups, Equinix was known for what it built, not for what it was like to work there. The company's recruitment model was reactive: post a role, wait for applicants. There was no talent community to speak of, no proactive nurturing of passive candidates, and a career site that functioned more as a job board than a brand experience. Equinix's Director of Global Talent Marketing, Jessica Rose, needed a partner who could become a genuine extension of her team, not a vendor executing a brief, but a collaborator who could own the employer's brand problem from strategy through to automation.

Approach

1. Employer Brand Narrative: The Magic of Equinix

Langoor began by codifying what made Equinix a genuinely compelling place to work, not inventing a story but surfacing and amplifying one that already existed inside the organization. The result was 'The Magic of Equinix': a brand narrative framework built around four messaging pillars. Innovation positioned Equinix as the company building the digital infrastructure that connects the world. Impact grounded the employer's story in scale, 10,000+ companies depend on Equinix, meaning every employee's work matters at global reach. Culture was anchored in Equinix's own internal commitment: 'I'm safe, I belong, and I matter.' Growth positioned Equinix as a place where careers are built, not just jobs held, within a Fortune 500 company at the center of the digital economy.

This narrative was brought to life through employee spotlights, day-in-the-life content, and behind-the-scenes stories, authentic content that shifted the employer brand from 'data center company' to 'digital infrastructure innovator where careers are built.'

2. Career Site Transformation

Langoor rebuilt Equinix's career site as a conversion-optimized brand experience rather than a functional job listing page. The redesigned site incorporated improved UX across job search, company culture pages, employee testimonials, and a benefits showcase. Critically, Langoor layered heat maps and analytics onto the career site to track content performance in real time, transforming it from a static brochure into a data-informed lead-generation engine that could be continuously optimised based on how candidates moved through it.

3. Talent Community Building: Fish from Two Ponds

A core strategic insight that shaped the entire programme was what Langoor called the 'fish from two ponds' model: recognizing that Equinix's addressable talent universe contained two fundamentally different audiences requiring different approaches. The first pond was active applicants; people already searched for roles, reachable through standard channels. The second pond was passive warm leads: people who had attended Equinix events or webinars, engaged with paid media, or applied previously but hadn't completed their application.

Langoor built talent communities that captured both audiences, inviting past candidates to re-engage and using targeted media to surface new warm leads. This shifted Equinix's recruitment model from reactive (waiting applications) to proactive (owning a pipeline of pre-warmed talent).

4. Media Buying and Campaign Execution

Langoor ran targeted digital advertising campaigns across LinkedIn, programmatic display, and paid social to reach infrastructure and technology talent at scale. Campaign creative was built around the 'Magic of Equinix' narrative pillars, ensuring that every media touchpoint, from a LinkedIn ad to a display banner, reinforced the same employer brand story. Performance optimization ran continuously to maximize reach and relevance within the specific talent segments Equinix needed most.

5. Marketing Automation and Workday Integration

Langoor built a marketing automation layer that ran behind the scenes, nurturing talent community members and warm leads 24/7 without recruiter involvement. A key execution was automated messaging to candidates who had started but not completed their applications, a nudge that meaningfully increased application completion rates. The entire automation stack was integrated with Equinix's existing Workday ATS, ensuring that Langoor's marketing infrastructure enhanced Equinix's existing systems rather than creating parallel complexity.

Outcomes

"Langoor became an extension of my team."

Career site visits since launch Of talent community members signed up for job alerts Full transformation of Equinix's recruitment model
  • Equinix was repositioned as an employer of choice for infrastructure and technology talent, shifting perception from 'data center company' to 'digital infrastructure innovator where careers are built.
  • Two distinct talent pools were built and activated: one of the active applicants, one of the warm leads sourced from events, webinars, and paid media, giving Equinix a proprietary talent pipeline independent of job-board dependency.
  • Automated messaging candidates with incomplete applications drove meaningful improvements in application completion rates, reducing drop-off without increasing recruiter workload.
  • Recruiters were freed from low-value sourcing tasks and could instead focus on engaging with warm leads who already understood and were interested in Equinix's culture, measurably improving recruitment efficiency.
  • The TA team gained the ability to demonstrate employer brand ROI to leadership through measurable metrics, career site traffic, job alert sign-up rates, and community engagement, establishing talent marketing as a strategic function rather than a support function.
